As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Karrie Lee spent several years after dental school completing additional training that general and family dentists don’t get. This training includes learning about child/adolescent growth and development, child psychology, identifying and treating child-specific dental issues, and working with children with special needs.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) suggests a child have his/her first dental checkup as early as 1 year of age or after their first tooth erupts! Here, at WindHaven Pediatric Dentistry, we want to be your child’s Dental Home, where we focus on the prevention of dental and oral health issues. If you have questions like “How do I brush my baby’s teeth?” , “what toothpaste should I be using?”, or “Is it okay to give my child a pacifier?”, these are all great questions that can be answered at your child’s first dental visit!
We strongly encourage that your child come at least every six months for a checkup and cleaning. These more frequent visits will not only ensure your child’s smile remains healthy and strong, but it also helps your child develop a sense of familiarity and comfort when they come to see us!
Although visiting our dental office plays a valuable role in maintaining your child’s smile, daily oral hygiene goes a long way to prevent dental problems. If your child isn’t doing so already, start the habit of brushing twice and flossing once every day to remove harmful plaque and bacteria. If needed, during their next visit, we would be happy to show you and your child proper technique so that you’re set up for success at home!
We use composite resin for our fillings. This material consists of BPA-free dental plastic mixed with fine ceramic particles, which bond well with the tooth structure for better long-term protection. Plus, these fillings can be colored to match the shade of the tooth, inconspicuously blending in.
Dental sealants are a great preventative service! It is a white, BPA-free, product that is applied to the chewing surfaces of your child’s premolars and molars, where most cavities occur. This layer acts as a shield and prevents bacteria, food particles, and plaque from settling on the enamel and causing decay. Ask us about dental sealants at your child’s next visit!
Yes, we accept insurance! We are in-network with several major PPO plans, but we work with out-of-network PPO plans as well. If you need some guidance regarding dental insurance, please feel free to give our team a call!
